Toyota’s popular RAV4 medium SUV has continued its success in 2024, topping the sales charts in July with a record 5,933 units sold, eclipsing the previous record of 5,857 units only two months prior.
Toyota’s fuel-saving hybrid technology also resonates more strongly than ever with official figures showing a monthly record 12,686 Hybrid Electric (HEV) sales across all model lines, demonstrating the improving supply to satisfy customers’ ever-increasing demand for hybrid-electric powertrains.
The 12,686 hybrid sales marked only the second time that Toyota has sold 10,000 hybrids in a month, and the second time that hybrid powertrains outsold all other fuel types with 55.9 per cent of the 22,705 July tally – its highest percentage on record.
Of the record 5,933 RAV4s sold, 93.4 per cent of those were hybrids, which would make the RAV4 Hybrid the best-selling vehicle for the month on its own.
The switch to a hybrid-only range on multiple model lines range saw HEV sales also dominate for the Camry (94.5 per cent), Corolla sedan and hatch (96 per cent), Corolla Cross (99.4 per cent) and Kluger (86.6 per cent).
The 12,686 hybrid sales meant that Toyota hybrids outsold the next-best performing brand by nearly 50 per cent, a testament to the popularity of the smooth and efficient fuel-saving powertrain technology with Australian buyers.
Including sales of the bZ4X Battery Electric SUV and Mirai fuel-cell electric sedan, Toyota’s share of electrified vehicle sales rises to 56.3 per cent.
Other strong performers for the month included the HiLux (4,747), Corolla hatch and sedan (2,658), Kluger (1,705) and Camry (1,498), all of which helped contribute to Toyota’s commanding 22.8 per cent market share.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operation Sean Hanley said the impressive hybrid sales reflected the hard work of Toyota’s dealership network and production teams to deliver as many vehicles as possible to waiting customers.
“Achieving a hybrid sales record for the second time this year shows just how much our customers value our fuel-saving technology, and it’s a testament to our dealer network who have been working around the clock to get vehicles delivered to customers,” Mr Hanley said.
“With supply levels stabilising, we’ve also seen how popular the RAV4 is with Australians, who appreciate the amenity, signature reliability and powertrain smoothness that our best-selling SUV offers.”
